- Fundamentals of rock mechanics related to rock slope engineering
- Structural geology and data interpretation
- Introduction to stereonets and stereographic projection
- Identification of modes of slope instability & kinematic analysis
- Site investigation and geological data collection
- Rock strength properties and their measurements
- Hoek-Brown strength criterion for fractured rock masses
- Ground water
- Plane failure – slope stability analysis and design of support system
- Wedge failure – slope stability analysis
- Toppling failure – slope stability analysis and design of support system
- Circular failure – slope stability analysis and design of support system
- Analysis of rock fall hazards and design of rock fall protection measures: velocities & trajectories, impact mechanics, coefficient of restitution, rock fall modelling, selection and design of protection structures
- Stabilisation of slopes: rock anchors, soil nailing, shotcrete, reaction wall, buttresses, drainage, rock removal, rock fall protection measures
- Modern, innovative and state-of-the-art slope protection systems
- Slope monitoring and instrumentation
